This is one of my deceased mother's silver rings. Quite large rather simply mount and a oval stone. Tested for sterling silver and a hallmark with the maker's mark D.G. A transparant lavendel colored stone. It could be Art Deco. My question to you: "Have you any idea what kind of stone and period this could be"?

I also think its amethyst. I have a bracelet in the same light shade of purple thats for sure amethyst.
Amethyst comes in many shades of purple. Usually when its darker, its much more expensive than the lighter color.
But its a nice ring.

Just throwing in glass...I have some beautiful pieces that are glass

My best guess as a geologist would be either glass or amethyst. Tanzinite, actually called blue zoisite, is a somewhat newer stone to be put in to jewelry, like the 60's and 70's. You could test it with a ultra violet or black light, some Tanzinite will glow because of the heat treatment and finish, though the finish wasn't permanent and may not be there still if it is that stone. Tanzinite tends to also be bluer.
Amethyst does come in many a-shade of purple, varying from pale blue-purples to dark reddish-brown purples. It's not unusual to see it in this colour, I have some samples in my personal rock collection that are this colour, abet not as even coloured as this. Some other stones that you may want to look in to that it could also be, because of course its so hard to identify based on images alone, purple apatite, fluorite( likely this would also fluoresce in uv light), garnet, spinel, and topaz. Judging from the zoomed in first picture and the scratches, scuffs, and sort of wavy sheen, I'd agree with AmberRose and say glass.
Being and Antique Amethyst collector....I believe the stone to be Amethyst Crystal. They tend to be very pale lavender to almost pinkish. Love the ring!

I'm gonna throw Kunzite into the picture- a light purply-pink stone. although Amythest seems much more likely.
