This is a man's 1938 Bulova American Clipper in a 10K Rolled Gold Plate hexagonal step sided case. I'm told this art deco design was inspired by the Pan Am Airways Clipper Service of flying boats during the 1930s. The black hexagonal dial with gold numerals and accents is easy to read. The 17 jewel adjusted 10AE movement keeps time accurately. The watch still has the original adjustable bracelet, and it came in a period art deco Bulova box featuring the goddess of time. This watch is in good overall condition, but would be magnificent if fully restored. I was hoping somebody could suggest a qualified restorer who could re-plate the bracelet, replace or polish the crystal, and perform a CLA.
It looks magnificent to me already. You got the whole package. Watch, bracelet and box! looks to be all original. I would do a C.O.A. and leave it at that. Great looking watch.
Thanks brunorob, I like it very much and have worn it monthly the past 5 years since I bought it. You can see some spots on the band where the plating has worn thin and it tends to tarnish, also some fine scratches on the crystal that you can't see too well in the angle from which the photo was taken.
Tarnish on the bracelet just gives it character in my opinion. 75 year old beauty. :)
UPDATE - Still running great - I like to wear all of the Bulovas and wind them at least once a month to keep the mechanisms ticking :-)
