Shaker oval boxes have a bit different kind of "fingers." This one has these interesting "stripes," which almost look like braided wood (possibly helping to hold the box together?) since there don't appear to be any nails or screws. Any idea about this method of joining wood? Could it be Shaker? This is dated 1826 and signed MWL. I think the stitching is called gut stitching?
