It was on a shelf with hand Bells saved from 1890s-1960s, looks French to me. We had a relative women who traveled to France in 1905 by herself. She was the wife of the Captain of a Clipper ship. On the bottom is only 49? Its very thick metal Bronze maybe? Anyone know what these are for?
Just found out what this is on Esty website very cute
I think it's a dresser box from 1940s in French Rococo style made of pot metal and finished with gold paint (possibly at a later date). Could have been made in Japan or Taiwan (based on other boxes I've seen).
An American maker is also a possibility.
Hi filmnet. Check out The Jewel Box Book online. Joanne, the author, is a great collector and source of information on these American jewelry boxes. I have a few pieces myself though I prefer the ring-sized versions. I believe Joanne has an account in here so you can reach out to her directly. Best of luck!
