Augustine Palmisano, born 1876 in Sicily, Italy (Cefalu, Termini to be exact). He emigrated to the USA, became a doctor in Baltimore, Maryland, and died in 1927. He is my maternal great-grandfather. These are three of his paintings that have been in my family (I inherited the one on the far right). I am interested to know if any other paintings exist outside of my family and if anyone has heard of him as an artist? To the best of my knowledge, he painted as a young man when living in Italy but perhaps also painted when he moved to the USA. Family oral history says that as a child he would get in trouble for drawing on the sides of buildings in Cefalu because he had no canvas or anything else to use.
I've search all my books, nothing. So he's not a listed artist. I would think a part time painter known by those in his area. But still nice work! I seen on another site a faily member of Augustine stated she didn't known he was a painter, so it may not be the same person. I would think a family memeber would have at least one painting if he did paint. I would have to see the back to tell appx. age. You can email me pictures of back and I will tell you. Dave

Hi Dave, that was me on the other website. I originally posted on there in 2006 and did not receive any response. Just tonight I stumbled across it and found a reponse from 2008 and another from 2009. The people who responded are some sort of relatives, but my maternal side is a bit fractured and we don't all know one another. At any rate, I will take a photo of the back of the painting that I have. My grandmother had a half dozen or more of his paintings, she passed them down to her 3 children and they have since been passed on to their children (including me).
Well looks to 1900 - 1910 period. It was common in that period for people to paint for pleasure. It was sort of a hobby or entertainment, they had nothing else to do. You should send info to North American Blue Book and have him listed in thier listing. You can send pics & info about the artist for submission. This way if someone else has a painting by him you would eventually find more. Goto http://www.artprice.com and look for submission link on right side, follow instructions. Dave
Sorry that was the Fench site, they are hard to get in. You need http://www.askart.com
Boat picture or sunset picture? No sunset, it's a boat picture. Sunset, It's a Sunset picture with a boat in it.
it looks like your grandfather brought some painting techniques here from Sicily. He may have learned from another family member who learned from one of ancestors some old techniques for painting ships on the water and cottages on the shore. A lot of people in Italy / Sicily have leaved by painting scenes like these and selling them to honeymooning tourists and even people on their Grand European Tours.
