This is a doll trunk that I bought on ebay. I'm hoping Trunkman is out there and can give me some idea on the age of it and any other info that he might have, please.
After getting outbid on a Jenny Lind doll trunk, I was able to get this one for a good price on Super Bowl Sunday. I guess everyone else was focused on the upcoming game. It needs some TLC, but I think it is still a good trunk. It is 14 inches long, 9 inches tall and 8-1/2 inches deep. It is covered in paper. It has an original lithograph inside the lid, which reminds me of George and Martha Washington. It had leather hinges on the back, which are now broken. It also had leather straps on the front that are broken, too. The corners are metal and fairly detailed. The handle end caps are metal and look like a button and are exactly like the strap holders on the front.

A really nice 1860's civil war era doll trunk. Doll trunks as you may know, are not as common as full sized trunks. Paper came into fashion on trunks at that time period due to the shortage of leather going to the war effort. The paper on yours is in exceptionally good shape considering its age and the fragility of the paper itself. Most leather parts tend to disintegrate over time if not properly cared for -- a common situation for old trunks. You are starting to work up a nice collection! Great find -- thanks for letting us have a look...

Thanks Trunkman. I always appreciate your knowledge.
Yes, I'm starting to run out of room but there are a few more that I would like to have. I have them in varying degrees of restoration but none done completely.

You are most welcome -- and that is the fun part, having a project on hand.
The neat thing about a well built doll trunk is the scale. From your picture it is really hard to get a sense of what size the trunk is -- because all of the parts were made to scale. In other words they did not slap big trunks parts on little trunks, but shrunk the parts to fit. I think I have just the one doll trunk up in the loft. I am kinda losing track...
