Letest Ebay find, this enlisted Marine dress hat, with what is known as a"Sea-going dip" bent crown. Quartermaster stamp of 1936, paid $23.00, and thought it was a khaki cover when it arrived. It was so stained with age, salt water & nicotine, I was surprised that the inside of the cover was actually WHITE!
I did my best to clean it up, and I did wash it, using EVERY arsenal in my wife's laundry room to clean it. It came out a little better, but not that SHARP crisp white I was looking for. Still photographs well.
Its a BUYERS market on Ebay, as the economy is still bad. 6 years ago this easily would have been a $125.00 hat. Nice addition to the collection none the less.
Nice find tlmbaran!
And stop touting ebay-- I don't need any competition!

We all know it's true about the economy. Fortunately I can afford to wait things out. I've got a bunch of things I'm just sitting on now, waiting for things to get better.
It is interesting.
I had three fantastic shows for SELLING last year-- Dalton in JAN, Mansfield in MAY and Nashville (Franklin) in DEC.
Then just a few weeks ago at Dalton, my selling was very slow; but I couldn't stop finding great bargains to buy!

I have not been buying militaria to sell, but I have been using the down economy to upgrade pieces in my collection and purchasing entire lots just to get one or two items I was particularly interested in, so I have lots of stuff I would have normally put on the market already.
Based on the housing market (which is where I AM investing to sell later), I think the economy will improve enough by 2014 , just in time for the 100th anniversary of WWI - a happy coincidence since that is the era most of the stuff I will sell comes from, and I hope to get a bump from that.
I am definately no financial wizzard, but that's the plan.
I have the similar thoughts on the WW1 Centennial.
I hope that it has a better "bump" than the SAW items did (or more correctly didn't have) in 1998!
