This coin was left to me by my dad. I believe he found it with his metal detector. It has no date or mint marks. It is made of brass. It has high relief
and shows some use wear. The coin is about the size of a large cent but seems to be slightly thicker. Unlike modern coins both sides of the coin have the same orientation. This is a beautiful coin and I have been trying to learn more about it but have been unable to locate a similar example. If you know anything about this coin please let me know.

      Hi hdmitch,
I dug one just like it about two years ago, although I think a different denomination. I wish it were a coin, but I am thinking my research then led me to believe that it was a jeton or a game token of some sort. I will dump some of my mason jars of buried wonders and see if I can find mine.
I genuinely hope someone here proves otherwise...:-)

      Very cool regardless!

      Thanks e1,
This one sure appears to be a coin. It is pretty intricate to be just a game token. It also has a good bit of handling wear. Let me know if you find yours. Thanks,
      hdmitch

Good snag on the link AR8Jason!

As promised hdmitch, mine can be seen in this post.

Great snag on the link Jason, and thank you e1 for finding yours for me. These are all the same token/coin? I hope we can find out what they are. Wonder how many more are out there? ;)

No, where can I find one?

You are entirely welcome hdmitch, i love to help others in their quests if I can.
Two more observations if I may. The bird on the front sometimes strikes me as Phoenix like more than eagle. Something about its posture. Can't explain why.
Secondly, you describe yours as bronze, large cent size and substantial. It is apparently the 10.00 token as opposed to my 1.00 one. I would describe mine as of some tin like material, larger than a large cent and insubstantial. I feel I could bend or break it if I wanted and it is actually lighter than the quarter I used for scale in the photo.
So maybe whatever they are must have differed in size, color and material as the face value increased. Things like poker chips rarely varied in diameter. This may be in some way significant in our search for an ID.

Sorry for the rambling comment, I am a bit over caffeinated this morning.

I will keep banging away on it. Please let me know if you have any luck

      Best,
      e1

Thanks e1 for the info and your comment is not rambling but good stuff. Any and all information will be helpful in my quest to find out what we have.

Thanks Jason for the info about the token book. I found one on line for $45 and since my collection includes quite a few tokens I may buy the book. I did go to the link you gave me and the token I saw is exactly like mine. I would like to contact the person but don't know how to join that blog. I hate to impose, but do you know how to access that blog?
