Floral glass by Simon Gate Orrefors 1917-18.

Several years ago, when my father was alive, I found this glass down packed in a box in the basement. That it was something that had a connection to my grandfather, Knut Bergqvist, I understood immediately. Surely he made the glass, and got it home to his collection. Why he got it home may be because it is not quite perfect. The bended "handle" on one side has namely been a little larger than the other side. But otherwise it's a very good job with optic blown shape overall and folded edge.

After I got the glass, I wondered about its origin. Was it a glass that Knut designed himself, or someone else? When I came over a book of drawings by Orrefors recently, however, I found this floral glass on the very first drawing there. According to the book, this number G/64 has design by Simon Gate during 1917-18. It is 170 mm high and has a leg that's 55 mm and a base with 104 mm width. The upper part is 136 mm in diameter. The only difference in my glass is that the sides at the top, has four instead of three extracts (and they point mor upwards), and the outermost edge of the base (at the folded edge) is different. It has not extctly the same form as in the drawing. It is probably so that it was difficult to get such a shape in practice, or that Knut just thought it looked better with a different form. Masterblower Knut Bergqvist decided more than we think in the first Orrefors years. The measurements otherwise looks agree very well with my glass, so now this mystery has been resolved.
