This Rindskopf vase dates to before WWI. It stands 12+ inches tall and is about 4" wide. The deep transparent ruby red base glass has a crackled surface to which has been applied an opaque silvery blue iridescent layer. The shape flares inward at the bottom and outward at the top. The middle has been tortured, and worked with several folds. The top rim is ground and the base shows no pontil mark. When properly lit, direct light illuminates the transparent red from within, and reflected light makes the iridescence sparkle from without.
Oh! tortured sounds too nasty!! - But the result is Beautiful!!: )
I guess I should have said twisted, but I meant tortured as in the old definition sense of "contortion, twisting, distortion" ... I love word play :-) http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?term=torture
Awesome Al, I would love to have a green one! Yours with the pontil must have a worked rim.
Hi beyemvey! Nice Vase!! I posted in CW the same Rindskopf Red Crackle treatment in a Bowl a while ago and I include the link to it here. I'm glad to know that it dates pre-W.W.I. Thanks, RER (BOB)
