    It looks like 4 large wood screws were used.
    The carvings exhibit signs of being done by hand.
    The cane was probably replaced within the past 50 yrs by the previous owner. The rockers look like the originals to me.

      On the bottom of the seat....do you see those triangular blocks? What is holding them in place? If they are screws are the flat head screws?

      Oh yes, I see that is what you were showing in the second picture. Yeah, 1900's reproduction rocking chair.

      You are lucky the cane is in such wonderful shape. Otherwise it would have been at least that to have it re caned. Most of the chairs I find need re caning, and I have to come up with an easier way to give them a seat. If you look through my collection you will see some other (less costly and less time consuming) alternatives!
