Hi Dennis, I've had some luck researching the age of my Elgin at http://elginwatches.com/. The database section has a serial number lookup using the SN from the mechanism. On my watch, this number was scratched on the inside of the watch case.

Hello Dennis I have the exact same watch except mine doesn't have 23 on the dial. I inherited from my uncle in 1964. I can't find any info on it either! I checked the s/n on the database mentioned in the other post and it came out to be 1944. I find that highly unlikely do to it's modern design. A watchmaker told me he thinks it might be from around 1958. I hope we can solve this mystery.

Dennis I found it! I give you the Lord Elgin Glencove. I have a picture of the Dec.9th 1957 magazine ad for this watch but I don't know how to post it in the comment section of this site. I will post it on my watches page.
