    This is a picture of my maternal grandfather in his army attire. There is no date or location given but the picture must be from late May or early June of 1944 since the caption reads, "Here's a picture of me a few days before the invasion of Normandy."

      Great image. I love early Airborne images.

      He looks to be in an ABN unit-- the wings on his chest look more like glider wings than Parachutist.

      Additionally, he had service in another unit prior to a transfer to an ABN unit (assuming caption of pre- Normandy is correct). He wears four "overseas bars" indicating TWO YEARS of overseas time.

      The patch could be an 18th ABN Corps, but that would post date Normandy.

      Thank you for the information! The only discrepancy is that he had a parachute.
