Heavy Leather Case Arrow Holder ?
I have no idea what this older used leather holder with carrying strap is. Measures 34inches long and the tube is 3 1/8inches in diameter. At the top the piece is engraved “ 1 9 4 0 1” with a “B” below it. The cartouche is a block shaped Cross with a P underneath is above the solid metal clasp.
The leather material is thick and quite heavy so I don’t believe it held a fishing pole. Arrows possibly ? or some other kind of tool? Was it military? The opening is secured with a heavy metal round hook. Inside the case there is a piece that guide whatever it is that it holds into a 2 inch narrow circular hole. Please let me know anything you can about this piece….it is in great condition, sturdy….where is the cartouche from?
My guess is maps.
My guess ...for fishing poles for fly fishing
or maybe for a rifle barrel and cairred on horseback..for army or or other branch
Those stampings look military to me & the quality too.
I have a camera on here with a tripod and the carrying leather case. It looks a little like that. Look at my site and see if you thing that a tripod would have fit in it.
