This is a huge portrait my wife's grandmother told her this was a Tibbetts. W.H. Dayton is on the right bottom I found his name in a book on Goggle. he was from Salem a charcoal artist. It is 46" high by 36" and really old, 10 lbs, anyone know this name?It is on paper with cloth on back.
Your item is photographic in nature (not a painting) and the name is most likely a photographers name.

Took this apart, its a charcoal drawing really nice , but yellow. It is on paper with cloth on back, also this in the Dad of Captain Charles Tibbetts his father Captain Henry Hersey Tibbetts Henry was a Captain of a Clipper ship from Salem Ma, Henry Hersey Tibbetts (1818 - 1890) I have prints of him with his name and he looks like this print. So really old, he looks like under 35 yrs old so which would be 1850-1960 for this print. I did read that Charcoal's prints were cheaper then Oil paintings. Henry and his son Charles had a lot of money later in life. Also this frame is beautiful and heavy really gold paint on this old frame.Nice to know this I will put Henry's prints here today.
This new file with Henry and wife is in an Album we have, left by Charles wife, She die here in our house 1917 and left all she owned here. That's why we have this all,
She was a sister to my wife' Great Grandmother. They all were from the Putham family from Salem. From the Lexington fight the first fight in the war 1777 Perley Puntham died and Nathan was hurt but lived, his son was the grandfather for these women.

Thanks Scott, that makes since, Can you help with this problem i am investigating this large print, it was told to be a man Tibbetts but the son Charles Tibbetts did not look like this as a young guy. I have prints of him as he dated his future wife in an album, these are from 1863 the dated album. So it must be his father which i posted above, i see the hair looks like the same , nose also. But the large beard is hard to read how his face would look later in life as show in the cabinet card with his wife. Do you think i should tell my wife is the father Henry Tibbetts?
