"Cruiser Battlship Oregon" covered dish, c. 1900, Flaccus, (the author's first antique!). Spanish American War memorabilia, from internet! Hello I believe there are 6 ships in total made for mustard. The cry after the Maine (battleship blew up) was "Remember the Maine!" History now believes the Spanish did not blow the ship up, but the crew did! I am not positive of this but it is in my mind, so I read it or saw it on PBS. They are not worth a lot as many were made, I guess people liked mustard!! thanks for looking! Don

Wonderful! One of my very favorite categories of milk glass - the commercial food containers. Flaccus was the food company that commissioned these. Flaccus containers were superbly molded, often opalescent. In the days before reliable 'refrigeration', mustard was a very important condiment. The German Philosopher Emmanuel Kant used to carry a jar of mustard around with him....

I read once the First Spanish in Ca. to figure out where to build Missions came north and dropped mustard seeds along the way so they could easily find there way back in the Spring! So now every year around her there is Mustard festivals. And lots of homemade mustard to buy! I have sterling charm with curved glass over it and a mustard seed inside? Thanks to both of you for looking!
