Czechman's story on his new find inspired me to post a couple of other examples...

First is a very large example from my collection - approximately 11" tall by 5.5" at the widest. The first photo shows it with frontal lighting, and the second is as lit by the bulds in the display case. The blue/green oil spot decor is evident.

Next is an example that I owned, but sold when I obtained the larger vase. (I have always regretted selling it!) It is 8" tall by 5.5" wide as shown in photo three. The frontal incandescent lighting shows off the beautiful iridescence characteristic of this decor to fullest effect. The polished pontil in photo four is typical of most Loetz pieces in this decor.

    Cheers!

Ah, so beautiful! My favorite is the little green one in the front of the row in second photo. The one with the 'comb' ruffle. Gorgeous!! : )

@ Mikko... that is Loetz Creta (green) Glatt decor in a shape called by many a "Tulpenvase". The Glatt series was first produced in the mid/late 1890s and continued for a number of years thereafter. It was characterized by simple elegant design and lack of superfluous decoration. The Tulpenvase shape was produced in other decors such as Papillon and Diana, rather than just the various Glatt colors, which included Creta (dark green), Olympia (light green), and Bronce (dark copper). What you called a "comb ruffle" is actually that the vase rim was completely pinched together in order to form five separate openings, one for each tulip or flower bud. Tulpenvases are also seen with seven, and I believe 9 openings... and in a variety of sizes. Mine is about 6" tall, the base is about 3" in diameter; the "fan" is about 6" wide. Most of the Glatt series was produced for export to the UK for Max Emmanuel in London, which probably explains why I bought mine from an English seller :-)

Beyemvey, thank you so very much for your very generous introduction to the Loetz Creta Glatt decor of the "Tulpenvase" form!!! Ah, a complete revelation for me. I have successfully resisted acquiring any kraliks thus far, and have been keen that I should not suddenly become kralik-krazed, but this diminutive but magnificent Loetz vase might one day follow me home, I fear.... : )

the iridescence on olympia can be quite gorgeous. it's one of my favorites. they look fairy dusted somehow. It doesn't capture on film.
