The only back ground information I have is that the spoon is about 23cm long. I do not even know how to interpret the engraving on the spoon. I don't know whether you would be able to read what has been engraved. It is the following: "L" "&" "W" "Anchor sign"and "S". Could anyone help?
Have all serling silver spoons been engraved? How should one identify an item by its engraving?
Hello, welcome to CW!! Thanks for sharing your spoon. Does it have any other markings on it? In order for a piece to be American sterling silver it has to be marked "STERLING", "925" or "92.5" somewhere. English spoons have a different system, the use small stamps to identify the item as sterling. A rampant lion indicates sterling, and other pictures are used for the town, maker and the year is indicated by a letter.
Other countries have different systems for marking sterling here are a few resources for IDing silver:

LEE & WIGFULL (SHEFFIELD) LTD
Sheffield
George S. Lee was active in Charlotte Street Works, Sheffield, together with Henry Wigfull.
The firm was described as Manufacturing Silversmith, Electro Plater and Britannia Metal Smith.
The partnership between George Shadford Lee and Henry Wigfull was dissolved in 1870. The business was continued by Henry Wigfull under the same style and address (John Street Works, Sheffield).
The firm was converted in 1899 into a limited liability company under the style of Lee & Wigfull (Sheffield) Ltd. The firm used the trade mark INSIGNIA PLATE
Look here it is about the sixth one down. Silver plate.

Hi, I'm back again.
No, there are no other markings of any kind on the spoon.
Would I be correct if I deduce that My Favorite Mystery Spoon is an English Electroplate Silver spoon?
I base my assumption on the information supplied on Lee & Wigfull (Sheffielf) Ltd.
Yes it is correct.
Thank you so much for the assistance given and it was indeed informative.
I'll certainly will be back shortly with the other 2 spoons with which I also require some assistance. I think I now have sufficient information to identify a 4th spoon all on my own.
It was really a pleasent experience!
no problem kosie, look forward to seeing more posts from you in the future! Have a great day!!!
