This vase by Craig Zweifel stands nearly 6" tall and is almost 4" wide. It is in a pleasing balluster shape with a small opening of about 1" diameter. The pulled draped decor through the amber base glass is an excellent example of Zweifel's style. It almost gives the impression of the scales of a colorful iridescent fish. The overall surface of the vase is of iridescent metallic oxides in pastel blue, pink, lavender, and gold. The base is ground flat and it is inscribed Zweifel 1989.
Sadly, the artist's website indicates that he is contemplating retirement this year. He is one of my favorite living glass artists working in an art nouveau revival style.
Hi Bob I just came across this artist the other day and thought his name was a misspelling of Zwiesel silly me!
Lovely Pices in form and decoration .
Very nice! I love this studio artist.
Marty, if he made a really big vase, it would be the Zweifel tower :)
LoetzDance - I have a couple of his other vases I will eventually get around to posting - one about 8.5" and the other a 3" miniature...
Bellin68 - I will check out your studio pieces!
I will enjoy seeing these postings. I think this artist is known for his taller "Zweiffle" tower vases, No?
@ LD - yes he did... in fact I was outbid on a 14" example a couple of months ago :-(
