This trunk had some sort of material maybe canvas covering. I removed what was left of the outer protection and found cracked parts in the wood.
I would like to know how would you go about fixing this problem or would you leave it as stands?
Any information on this type of trunk is welcome.
Thank you
Personally!... I would just leave it ..a la natural, it's great as it is!...:-)
inky, thank you. I will leave as you say, "a la natural"
Thank you for the love, walksoftly, inky, blunderbuss2, officialfuel, mustangtony, and trunkman.
I would concur with inky -- great as it is. I have no solution for a cracked piece of pine that I would be satisfied with. For me it just comes with the territory and is a part of the character of a piece. This one has come out quite nicely!
Trunkman, what would you do if the crack was bigger. Like a small chunk was missing. Would you replace that strip of pine. Can it be done?
I would agree with Phil. It is very hard to match color unless you sand it all down and re-stain the whole piece. If a sizable piece is missing and needs obvious fixing another approach would be to attempt to match the stain on the piece before it is installed. There are special tools available to unbend the rivets to takes the slats off for repair. I would not be brave enough to attempt it myself.
