This sewing machine has been in our basement forever. I think it is a commercial type but I'm not sure. Any info would be gratefully appreciated.

The machine is a Singer 21W150. It's an industrial model, one that was taken from Wheeler and Wilson's range after Singer took over the W&W company in 1905. The machine is for garment sewing, tailoring. http://parts.singerco.com/IPinstManuals/21W.pdf

Wow! Your awesome Bernadette!! Makes sense, my great uncle's father was a tailor and he was the one that acquired this machine. It works still when I plugged it in like a champ! Yeah Singer! My great uncle was a machinist and added the clamp on light. Obviously not original. Any idea of whom may be interested in acquiring this machine?
If you great uncle was a well known person when he worked as a tailor, or for a well known company, a local history society or museum might be interested in it? In the current condition it's showing it's age and well-used history but this makes machines less value to collectors unless there's a sentimental value attached.
The machine is a Singer 21W180. Look down the list of machines here on Collectors weekly and you'll see my machine along with the information I have found. They sew great so don't be afraid to use it. Needles are hard to come by but newer style needles can be modified to work.
