This is a WW2 soldiers ring that was purchased out of a Veteran's estate. The top of the ring has the 3rd Infantry Division patch, with "1944" split on each side. The ring is also engraved with "Rome" and "Italy".
The 3ID fought in N. Africa, Sicily, Italy, France, Germany and Austria. Its' most notable WW2 member is Audie Murphy (MOH).
The ring is made of aluminum. Aluminum craft (airplanes, rings, etc...) were popular Italian souvenir items during the war. This ring could be a local craftsman's product or it could even be a soldier made item.

Thanks-- I got this one for less than $20.
I am like you, I can't pass up a bargain. The seller didn't know that it was a 3rd ID patch on the top! Advertised correctly it would bring 2- 3 times what I paid.
