I've got an identical table and I love it. It is called a chocolate table, don't remember why, I've got a miniature porcelain tea set in mine with a small light up Christmas tree for lighting. I gave $100 for mine about 2 years ago, but have seen them in antique shops for $300 to $500 (depending on the shop). They also come in kidney shaped and oval. One of these days I intend to have a whole set!

Perhaps it is called a chocolate table because that is where one would store their chocolate set? A chocolate set was similar to a tea set, but used to serve hot chocolate.

These are replicas of Antique tea display tables. Americans started calling them chocolate table because of the rebellion against tea prices during the revolution. My mother collected antiques and purchased two in the Stone Mountain, Ga. area about 50 years ago. Her's are solid oak. One is square and all four sides open in a drop down fashion. The other is retangle with a bow front and opens only from the front. Her's are the only antiques I have ever seen. A company called Furniture World makes reproductions in three different shapes.
