    "The Lawsuit Model Bulova"

"Here is the Bulova Academy Award Model -Ribbed Case with -Golden Curtain Dial from 1950 complete with AA Case and Tag." These watches continue to gain popularity with collectors mainly for not only the unique quality of the Watches themselves but for the Story of how the relationship between Bulova and AMPAS happened and the tragic results of that relationship.

If you look closely as the advertising Postcard (dial an Oscar) that Bulova presented to their dealers, it appears that they actually won the Oscar! AMPAS although paid a healthy fee for a limited License for Bulova to use their Trademarks considered these ads a Trademark Infringement and sued Bulova.

The actual results of the Lawsuit was never made public although Bulova discontinued this line of Watches forever. They were actually handed out to Academy Award Nominees and Winners from 1948-1952.

A real novelity to own one, not only Watches but the Story and History of them. Top of the line 21 jewel Movements complemented a Gold Filled Case and matching expansion Bracelets.

      Great watch Jev!
They still made the Academy Award models though in Canada up until 1968 at least.
This ad from Watchophilia that I found, amongst many posted there, has two models, a man's and a ladies.

I also have a Bulova Academy Award watch in the original case with all the advertisements which were included. I’m really appreciative of the info, & hope to someday put my watch up for sale.
      Thanks again!

The Bulova Academy Award model is a very special watch. The National Academy of Arts and Sciences only allowed Bulova to use their Oscar Statuette Symbol once. When they manufactured these gems, they were handed out to the Stars at The Academy Awards. I would suggest if selling, don't go by other private sellers selling prices. Have your watch professionally appraised by someone trained in timepiece collectables. If you decide to keep your AA Model, it will be the greatest conversation piece of any watch you could ever own. Enjoy, John V - Time & Again
