The chest is (from what I've been told) most likely a "Bevel Top" trunk?
It is approx the following measurements ;
Hight: 2 ft
Length: 3 1/2 ft
Width: 2 ft
Depth: 2 ft
(excuse me for the approx, as I have no measurement equipment)
Where the leather handles used to be the metal work that would fasten them to place has a small star with rope like boarders around base?
Furthermore the bottom of the chest has claw-like feet with 1 small wheel
at each corner, as well as metal work @ bottom centres, etc...
Any further information on this item would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!
Looks like an 1890's or very early 1900's "Bevel top" trunk. It is not a loaf shape trunk -- which would be called a Jenny Lind if it were. Nice trunk and would be a good candidate to refinish. Without a label it is hard to identify a maker as they were many at this time period. I am not familiar with the logo on the handles as you describe. Thanks for posting and welcome to CW!
Not for sale, but I'm curious how much value would anyone suggest this trunk to be worth 'Finished' compared to 'As Is'?
Another reason is If the cash value is fairly significant I will consider adding this idem to my fire/theft insurance?!
