I picked these up at an estate sale. Looked very interesting. "Sterling Japan" is printed under the fish eyes and on the clamps, and each section of the fish move independently.

Anyone have an idea what time period these come from?
    2. davyd286, 12 years ago
The screw back clasps are probably from around 1940-50.

By the book of C, Jeanenne Bell screw back unpericed earrings becaume popular in 1909. They are still made today but they are not common on new pieces. So over a period from 1909 to 1950, these earrings are made of, where I myself think of 1910-1920.

Thanks for the info! Would these be at all valuable? (picked them up for $7.50) :)

You've got to find the value on your own, this is a collector's site. eBay's completed listings are free to browse

Yes I have browsed ebay, nothing similar. I'm just curious...not trying to sell.

Guess I didn't have the right keywords in there, thanks. Too bad the seller of those didn't seem to know much about them either. I just began my antique collection in the past year with some inherited items from my grandparents, who were antique collectors/dealers. Will post some show & tell pics of their items.

That's good to hear you've started a collection, what area of antiques were your grandparents into? Go ahead and post some more items, we'd love to see, and we can help you identify things too

Stillwater, my Grandmother sold mostly jewelry, lamps and some furniture. My Grandfather was mostly a collector of anything mechanical: tools, guns. So of course their house was filled with antiques. I just added 3 items to show & tell...thanks for looking!!

Oh my goodness! I have a necklace from Norway that is identical to these! My mother purchased it in Oslo in the early 60s.

Really?! I would love to see it if you could post a pic!

bjoyos, as far as resale value, my sister sold a pair like these for 5 times what you paid for yours. A good deal in my opinion.
