A superbly crafted original Limoges enamel pendant with original silver mount. Limoges is not only the birthplace of the well-known porcelain artists; since the Middle Ages an industry of decorative artists schooled in fine quality enamel on copper was also based there. This particular piece depicts a young Lady (Holy Mary?) in profile. Her face is exquisitely portrayed with fine detail and tonal qualities. The use of metallic shimmering enamels can be seen in the bonnet and dress. She is profiled against the classic royal blue enamel.
The enamel is in good condition with only one loss near the nose but fortunately not in the face. The palette and rendering of realistic tone and decorative features are superb. The back of the pendant is also enamelled to strengthen the piece. It is signed Bardonnaud Limoges. It dates to around 1890 - early 1900s.

The pendant measures 4 cm (1.5 inches) top to bottom and 2 cm (0.9 inch) wide. The enamel is set in a silver frame full little Marcasites.
This pendant makes a wonderful match (you could call it a demi-parure) with my already 2 years ago showed brooch here on CW. See link:

I adore the wonderful blue colors of the enamel. Don't you agree??

The beautiful lady on your piece of jewelry reminds me a lot of pictures I have seen of Saint Fabiola although I have only seen her wearing a red veil.

"Her story became popular in the late 19th century, and an 1885 portrait of her by a French academician, Jean-Jacques Henner, that is now lost, has since been endlessly copied around the world. Appearing on postcards, posters and religious trinkets, Fabiola has been a beloved subject for countless painters, most of them amateurs. The portrait’s format is almost always the same: Fabiola is seen in profile facing left, her head covered by a rich red veil."

Virgin Mary is traditionally depicted wearing a blue head covering after she has had the baby.

      AR8Jason. Hello Kevin,
What a pity that you leave CW. You're one of those with a lot of knowledge of antique and vintage jewelry and assited your knowledge with a lot of us, collectors. Moreover, it was for you never too much trouble everything as good as possible to describe or explain. In short, you leaving on CW is a loss for many collectors.
Obviously I will be happy to ask your counsel and advise to use through your private mail data to your counsel and advice as possible. You'll hear from me!!
