This piggy is my latest treasure. I think he is absolutely stunning. I'm not sure if it came across in the photos, but the deep green glaze has some iridescent patina in the pooling. The ceramic itself is white. As you can see he is about 8 inches long. The ears and tail are applied decorations. He only has three legs! I purchased it on eBay from a South African seller. It reminds me of Flemish art pottery. When I saw it, my immediate thought was that it looked like a cross between my Belgian art nouveau vase and the other piggy banks I have posted. I love it so much. It took 17 days to get to me from SA. I know nothing about it. There are no marks and I have never seen anything like it before.
Thanks for the loves, y'all. :) and my Internet is fixed, so I'll be posting some better pics here in a minute! :D
Hey so I figured it out! It is Dutch, and likely made by de Boer in Workam. Not sure how old it is, but not newer than the 1960's. That explains how it got to South Africa!
What a wonderful pig!!!
Thank you Mikko!
Love your big!...:-)
