Kralik enameled oil spot cameo glass JIP pitcher, ca. 1900

Today was the first day of our local bi-monthly show - the D.C. Big Flea, so I was happy to get out for a day of glass hunting! This was my favorite find of the day. About a year ago, I posted a small squat vase in this decor; this is the first time I have seen a Kralik pitcher in this jack-in-pulpit shape or decor. The form lends itself perfectly to use as a ewer - water pours from it as smooth as silk. Height is 8.0 inches.

Clear glass with silver yellow oil spot, mold-blown and shaped. Matt iridescent.

According to Das Boehmische Glas, 1700-1950, Band IV, the unusual combination of oil spot with acid etched decoration is found only on pieces from this particular glass house. Different from earlier etched pieces from Eleanorenhain in which the application used templates or pressure, in this case, the acid resist is applied individually by hand painting.
