Here are some of my collection of black mourning brooches. I have always been struck by the poignancy and emotion of this type of jewelry. I also love black jet and black rhinestones. I have wanted to collect hair pieces for some time but I am not sure that they might be considered morbid in the shop.......I have held back so far but I have little resolve. The first two are Whitby Jet - Victorian. The last one is a czeck glass cameo pin circa 1920. I will put the others in another posting to see closer.

I like mourning jewely too also hair pieces. I'v several posted here on CW. Perhaps it's a little bit morbid but at the same time they have also love and sentiments about the person(s) passed away.

I read on CW that in Victorian times England imported 50,000 lbs a year of human hair for the British jewelry industry - so most probably did not originate with the decreased person as I previously thought.......
