So here is a confusing situation. I won these at auction. Set of 9 lovely Dutch Silver spoons .833 silver dating back to the later 1800's . Funny thing is that they are all exactly the same except that 4 have the date marks "a", and five have the date marks, "x". At first I was a little alarmed, but it makes a little sense now. The ones marked with the "x" were the original spoons from 1857. Now the ones marked "a" date to three years later, and they have a different makers mark. I am thinking the original owner lost a few spoons or wanted to have some more made to match. So they had a different silversmith or firm try to copy the originals. Makes sense to me. So it works.

I've had no luck finding the maker yet. The spoons are nice, very light and delicate with a concave stem. They are very detailed and cleaned up nicely. I am overall happy with the purchase.

The box says LEPELTJES. Does anyone know the meaning? I doubt this is the original box for the spoons, but if it is that would be nice. Thanks for helping and looking!!

Stunning! Check out the Minerva heads. The one pictured has the town assay mark missing. Can you check the others? Maybe there will be a letter on the helmet of one of them. If you know the town then you're a bit closer to the maker.
