Greetings: This is for AmberRose. This is what I purchased when I returned the 11 Le Verre Francais lamps (posted yesterday). Tongeren is the oldest city in Belgium (it was actually a walled Roman city once upon a time). There is a weekly (mostly outdoor) antique market (around the old Roman wall) every Sunday, starting at 3:00 - 4:00 AM. Flashlights are required for early viewing. This pair of solid marble and bronze pedestals were on the sidewalk when I arrived. They were not cheap and I left a small deposit - I needed to go back to Germany to pick up my 11 lamps - return them to the Belgian antique dealer - and return to Tongeren to complete my pedestal purchase. The pedestals are 50" x 14" and weigh a Godzillion pounds. I was told that they came from a remodeled embassy in Northern France. The pictures, in no way, do them justice. Regards.

PhilDavidAlexanderMorris: The reason that I still own these pedestals is that I realized that I liked them too much to part with them, paid a Sotheby's withdraw commission, and pulled them from the auction. Regards.

PhilDavidAlexanderMorris: Thanks for your input. I mention that I consigned these pedestals to Sotheby's (Amsterdam), Catalog 567, Item 1096, Sep. 29, 1992. I do think that this auction house is slightly reputable. Evaluation - probably French, circa 1925, BRONZE mounts, capital, and base. Estimate = $10-15k Dfl.
