I love cycling and everything that goes with it, from road bikes to cruisers. I was just given this bicycle, it was my mother in laws when she was a child. I have said for years that I would love to have it and getting in back to working order.

I have now started to work on the project and have come to a hault, because I all I know is what I have gotten from various websites. I am looking to understand the value of the bike and its history. Are there parts available and where can I find them. My intial thought was to sand it down and repaint it, but does that go against the restoration code? Is it even worth trying to restore?

If anyone has any suggestions or websites I can refer to - I would love the feedback! Thanks. - Tanya

Whoooooooaaa, Please Don't sand it down....Lets see what kind of wheels u can use to repair it. Try Mean-Green to just get the gum or gunk off it.....I don't know value but thats a nice bike to restore.. Scratches & All...... Good Luck....

What you've got is a nice original 1950's girls bike. While it's not extremely valuable it's certainly worth the effort to get it rideable and looking good. Go to http://www.memorylane-classics.com and they should have what you need. I'm in agreement with everyone, don't do a repaint. Go to http://www.sheldonbrown.com and you'll get a lot of info on how to disassemble and clean the bike to bring it back to life. Check ebay for an idea of value but I think if you spend a little money to get it up and running it's easily worth $250-$300

Well said toolate2..... I sure don't want to see a pic of this bike back up here in a month with a repaint-job!!!!

Firestone doesn't make bikes any more. It's worth more the way it is unless you want to invest thousands. Clean it up as best you can with turtle wax and elbow grease. Great bike and all original, nice..

tanya, I don't know where you are but any bicycle shop worth it's salt should be able to help you with this project, restore...not repaint ! I think you will be extreemly happy with the finished piece.
