From Internet: “Loving Geishas” which depict two women and the “Elaborate Geisha” who looks alluringly over her shoulder with intricate detailing including strands of hair and brocade collar. Rarest and most sought after though are the nudes, single and double figures in classic pin up poses or reclining. The most interesting to me is the one called the “Posing Nude” who sits naked with her arm held bent at the elbow to show her muscles—she seems to be saying “you can look but don’t touch!” HELLO! I just received this cup!!! Japanese Dragon cups! I have two now!! I posted other before with the one beauty! Now I have 2 cups and 3 beauties! I only wish my camera would take clearer photos! Thanks for looking! DonLithophane is an invented word formed from the Greek for stone, litho, and phanes, meaning appearance, so translated is “appearing in stone”Now these lovely geisha cups are nowhere near that old. The Japanese began creating them in the late 1800s and continued until the 1950s. The cups are usually quite thin and the picture is created by varying the thickness of the porcelain in the bottom of the cup.
Cute! thanks!
Okay Toracat, whats up you left me hanging one these Geisha's!!
These are on porcelain?
Are they on these dragon cups?

I have recently purchased a tea set on an island in Alaska and I know nothing about it. While searching through the Internet I located a picture of your cup and saucer with the posing nude geisha. Your cup and saucer are identical to the set that I purchased. I have had a hard time learning anything about these pieces and I am wondering if you could give me a little information about this particular set. My set includes 6 cups (with posing nude geisha), 6 saucers, teapot w/lid, sugar bowl w/lid and cream or milk holder. I am very curious to know when it was made and where? Maybe even the value if you can?
Hi made from late 1800's up to 1950's. Nudes are worth the most. What I have seen is maybe up to $100. or so for nudes. Big set? maybe a lot! Check Ebay!
Thank You! eBay doesn't have this exact one and I am not interested in selling because I do love this set just curious to know if I overpaid. Thank you!
You are welcome, they are made by different layers of porcelain for the picture!
Absolutely stunning!!! I have a cup & saucer with the Geisha head but have never seen the nudes. I thought mine would be 1940's would I be correct? Same dragon pattern on cup & saucer
