Greetings: This is an extremely large ship's wheel that I purchased about 25 years ago in Belgium. I enjoy it as a backdrop for my breakfast table which overlooks the bay. I am not sure of the wood used (mahogany, teak, ???). It has a brass band and an iron center and is very heavy. I can locate no markings. I have viewed many ship's wheels, but not many with the outer wooden band, which connects the steering posts. It is over 5' tall. I watched the latest version of the movie "Titanic" and, in particular, paid attention to the pilot room - this wheel is larger than any depicted in the movie. I have no idea what type of ship that this wheel may have graced. ??? Regards.
