I love this platter but I can't find out to much about it. It is app. 14 x 22 in size. It has U over 94 fired right into back along with spode a #5 and a #26. It is also very heavy. I have been told it could be a fish platter but I cannot find another one like it. Any suggestions where to look would be greatly appreciated or any information on it would be appreciated also. This is the only piece I have but would love to add to it. Thanks

Copeland merged with Spode at some point. The mark on your piece dates it from 1890-1940. I think Spode has an historical society so you may find info via that if you google their name.

Here's a link. I know that the blue flow color is very desirable. http://www.spodemuseumtrust.org/history-of-spode-2.html

PS. The U 94 probably stands for 1894

Thank You Mary. I have read that the U stands for June and the 94 stood for a year but I had looked through all kinds of spode backstamps and couldn't find any that was like this one. I live in a small town and the library didn't have any books on the backstamps and I couldn't locate it on the spode websight either.I have looked through the stuff that was on the spode museum and I did find there is a platter that looks just like this except that one had a grasshopper pattern on the inside too. Where mine only has the pattern around the top. I am wondering if there will even be any information on it because maybe it was a special request from a buyer back then.

It may be that your piece was one that had a lid, so the centre pattern wasn't applied? I am a member Marks4Ceramics, that's where I found your mark, so it is authentic. If there is an option to send an e-mail on the Spode museum website, send a pic of the back and front and ask them why it doesn't have the centre decoration.

Go to replacements.com and search " spode copeland covered dish" and see what comes up. I don't think they have much in your pattern, but may have the same size dish in another so you can compare and see if it is indeed missing a lid. Good luck!

Hi Mary, I did go through all the replacement . com pieces and there is a similar platter but it has the whole platter printed. And there isn't anything else like this one there either. But if you can think of any other ideas i am open to them. Thanks for your help.
