Dear Sir/Madam, A close friend of mine owns this model ship. He purchased it at an upscale auction (Royal York) in Pittsburgh PA maybe 20 years ago. He is getting older and doesn’t want it destroyed after his passing. Would you please take a look at this masterpiece and give me a little information about what it is. I understand it is a little rough but it’s all there and original. The detail is amazing! We took it to a local, large hobby shop and he thought it might be scratch built by a person that was on this ship in the late 1800’s or early 1900’s. If I can provide additional information to help you, please reply with your request.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

it is very beautiful!
It certainly has some age-- the "crazing" to the wood finish looks great in the close up photos.
The ivory or bone inlays also really look fantastic.
I would agree that it is indeed a handmade, scratch built piece!
I love it.

Amazing detail, belongs in a museum! My guess would be at least 125-150 yrs old, usually done by the crew member on the ship to help pass the time, and is unusual in having 4 masts.Looks like an English ship ,but could be Dutch also. Very nice piece of history, any maritime museum would love to have it!
