I bought this antique anatomical model at a state surplus auction for only $10 for it and a couple other random medical items. (they were all modern) The label was obscured by a bag they had around it and I had assumed it was 70's or so because it looked oldish. I gifted it to my sister and while loading it up to bring to her I came across the maker's label which clarified that it was from occupied Japan. Based on my research that appears to put it between 47 and 52.
Unfortunately half the brain is missing and the outside surface has some damage. Other than that half the brain, all the organs are there and they are all in very nice shape. It seems to be wood, paper mache, and plaster. There are a couple small hinges missing from the outside of the piece as well.
When you open the heart up you can still see veins made of paper inside of it. The whole thing is numbered and has a great deal of detail.
I have more pictures of it on flickr. http://www.flickr.com/photos/fireezdragon/sets/72157632878881262/with/8515070598/
I couldn't find one like it online and am so curious as to how many of them are floating around out there.
