Greetings: This is a bronze by little-known Belgian sculptor Karel Lateur (1873-1949). Unlike most castings, this example is solid bronze. Most castings are hollow, which tends to eliminate cracking during the cooling process. Hollow castings are also cheaper to produce, as less metal is utilized. Lateur attended the Brussels Academy and exhibited this model at an exhibition in 1930. I understand that a larger version of this model entitled "The Pilgrim" is on constant exhibition at the Palace of Justice in Bruges. It has a pink marble base, is 18" tall, and signed with "K" superimposed over an "L". Regards.
A fabulous bronze, Nootch!
