    Moonstonel…
    (765 items)

This was given to me as a gift....this is an amazing Green Citrine Ring that is foil backed and the stones are like they were cut to be petals and the centre stone is set into solid 18 Rose Gold. The rest of the ring I believe is Silver and is soft. The ring was originally a size 3-4 and I sized it to a 7. The top measures 20mm round...I love the colour of the stones...that's why drew me to the piece...I had the stone tested and it tested high enough to be Chrysoberyl. Wow...I never knew :))))

Agram.m, thank you...its really special to me. This came from a Back East Estate that was 5 generations of weath. I collected a few pieces from that family. I loved the ring!

Really pretty but what an unusual setting. What year do you think? Foil backed...interesting.

AmberRose, I was puzzled also..and took the ring to the store. They said its was from around 1860 or 1870 and that all is original to the ring. The owner of Claydon Jewelers said that they are afraid to touch it ..just size it was scary enough. The ring is so delicate.and the foil backed stones should not be touched...

I believe it! I have a couple of foil backed necklaces from the 20s

AmberRose, are you saying that the ring is not as old as I was told?
    7. AmberRose AmberRose, 12 years ago
No. I have no idea! I was just saying I have some foil backed pieces.
I know it was popular for a long time. Jumped up in the 20/30s because of the war and the depression.
1860 timeline is Civil War timeframe and I have no idea what they wore.

Im wondering if the stones are actually chrysoberyl which are pretty rare and were used in Georgian pieces.?
    9. Moonstonelover21 Moonstonelover21, 12 years ago
vintagejewel, you could be correct about the stone! The store did not test the stone...just barely wanted to size the ring. They did say this was very well made and probably a custom piece. This came out of an estate that were old Southern wealth that the 5th generation had no idea and just almost gave it away...Ivory,Rubies,Emeralds and Diomonds.. all set into 18k and platinum for chump change! Some of the most expensive pieces I have ever seen..and he was scrapping all of them to gold buyers! I rescued some that he gave me....but most are lost. This has a two tone a green/yellow tinge to the stones. Thank you for giving me your opinion!

vintagejewel, thank you soo much for opening my eyes. When you are too close you do not see the light :0 I would love to get your opinions all the time. I am into Antique Jewelry and I sometimes do not see or check when its a gift and not for resale :) So I guess I take it for granted and not appreciate that beauty of what is gifted. Thank you!
