I bought these two pieces from a flea market years ago (on two separate occasions) becuase I thought and still do think that they are very intersting but I don't understand them at all. I know that they are in german...but that's all I know. I have researched and researched them on the internet but got nothing. So I threw my hands up! If anyone out there knows anything about them, please let me know. Oh..the one with the man holding the guitar is an actual drawing and on the back of it, there is something written in german. Please help.
Hey thanks for the translation that really helps me out..but I have been going crazy trying to find my Herz Ist Trumpf print on line and I can't find anywhere and the second one....IS A TRUE MYSTERY...i tried looking that one up..but nooo luck.
Thank you!
Herz ist Trumpf. A novel by Korfiz Holm. Maybe it's the cover of an edition of the novel? He is sometimes also known as Corfiz Holm. The novel was originally published in Munich in 1918. It was made into a film in 1934: with Paul Hörbiger and Jenny Jugo.
I think it means 'Hearts are trumps" ..... the cards term.

The ironic drawing is based on a song the "Weserlied" (1835).
The Weser is a song that became a folk song with words by Franz von Dingelstedt set to music by Gustav Pressel.
"Das Weserlied ist ein Lied, das zu einem Volkslied geworden ist. Es wurde 1835 von Franz von Dingelstedt in Todenmann bei Rinteln gedichtet und später von Gustav Pressel vertont. An den Dichter und den Komponisten erinnern das 1931 errichtete Dingelstedt-Denkmal in Todenmann und die Weserliedanlage in Hann. Münden."
You'll find the lyrics here:

The first verse goes:
"Hier hab' ich so manches liebe Mal
mit meiner Laute gesessen,
hinunterblickend ins weite Tal
mein selbst und der Welt vergessen."
I'm here 'so many a time sat with my lute, looking down into the wide valley My self and the world forgot.
