This piece has driven me nuts for days. I can't find anything like it. Behind the wrench I can see a compass. I've used dozens of key words. Sometimes you get lucky on the collectable forum on eBay. I haven't stopped looking, it has Masonic tones to it, but I'm lost.

this is very interesting........what do you think the OUTSIDE rings of the piece represents? that is the only part that I am not getting....

I looked under engineer, mechanic, organizations, emblems, all Masionic names I coiuld think of, even military. I just don't know.

What we need is a mechanic in here. See the curved tool going up TO the head of the wrench? I can't remember that that is called. You can barely see the top of a compass, but that cog is not connected to it.

I just had a thought. The outside means nothing more then to weave a hat band in and out of it?

Caliper Tool!! ! Alright this is a mechanic badge then. Not sure where to go from here though. :)

Okay I found this, now maybe someone can nail it down for you?
      Ordnance Battalion

      Symbolism
The calipers and wrench symbolize the unit’s former maintenance function and the cogwheel above expresses their determination to keep the wheels turning. The gauntlet and lightning flashes symbolize toughness and speed of performance

Now I guess to find out what Battalion?

Vestawind, you are getting so much further than me for sure!!! I thought it was masonic and then someone said somethin about post war Germany to me and totally threw me off the masons idea!!!! I love this badge but it's been completely fraustrating me for about 2 weeks now!!!!!!

I was left hundreds of pins with mystery symbols, and letters I thought I had become pretty good at this. This thing just had me ticked off! Now if we can find the Battalion number we won!

Vesaswind - It's not Masonic or German. It's from a union organization around the turn of the 20th Century that copied the Masonic square and compass for its union symbols. It was earlier than the UAW but similar. I'm sorry I cant remember the exact union affliation.
