Roycroftbooks had posted similar ones recently, I thought that they had a SW look to them.
Tourist item?
Thanks AR8.
Thanks for the love on these, Tony, official & also to Bellin for the kind words.
I have a bird sculpture of similar style and material. It is a little smaller though, and is a very niece piece of artwork.
Yours are very intriguing!
Thanks so much Phil for the love, the info & the comment!
You're up early today, as was I.
AR8 your top links didn't work & I had seen the other ones already, thanks anyways for your input.
Also could be banded calcite.
From Wikipedia
The name Onyx has sometimes been used, incorrectly, to label other banded lapidary materials, such as banded calcite found in Mexico, Pakistan, and other places, and often carved, polished and sold. This material is much softer than true onyx, and much more readily available. The majority of carved items sold as "onyx" today are this carbonate material.
Thanks Ted for the love on these bookends & your comment.
You now have me intrigued about your bird sculpture.
From Mexico

Thanks Sis, better late than never! :-)
Hey Bro I used to try then as a teen when I was late it never worked . Late meant a discipline action was in order for me !!! , you got away with more than me if that say'n saved you :-)
I remember there being times when my brother & I came home many hours past the time we should have been home. One time we came home at sunrise to find Mom sitting on the doorstep & I was driving the car but didn't have my license yet. My brother crawled out of the back seat & went straight in the house to bed & left me to explain to Mom where we had been & why I was driving. I don't remember any disciplinary action, she was just glad to see us home & alive. More than likely Dad put us to work a few hours later.
Thanks for giving this some love neil.
