    Hello...
First off, my wife and I really enjoy your show; since watching your show, we've taken a second look at our collection of old things, as my wife says, "His junk". I have a habit of checking out dumpsters when a business has closed or on junk day check out what people have put to the road... in this case people were moving out from a building which is going to be our new community hall, they had two dumpsters brought in...so i took a look, i found boxes of figurines, books, and more figurines.
I pulled out what I thought I could sell at our yard sale coming up this summer...after watching a few of your episodes, I took a closer look and this rooster really stood out, the year on the bottom is 1885... it's very smooth to the touch, i cannot find any chips, scratches or cracks, it appears to have had dirt inside of this planter; there's dust in the crevices on the outside...any suggestions on how to clean it without damaging this find looking rooster? I have it on my desk here and...it's so cool, "I have a 128 yr old rooster on my desk" on the bottom to the left of the # 38662 there's either a 2- digit # or a initial scribed by the maker...it appears to be 58 or 52, turn it side-ways, it appears to look like a chick running... this is what has me in question mark...
    Thank you,
    Eric

After just a quick look on the internet, I found a really nice site: collectorscircle.com
there is a picture of the mark that is on your rooster. Erphila is the mark for Ebeling & Reuss Philadelphia, they didn't manufacture, they just imported. I think your rooster is from 1920-1940 according to the mark. Check out the site.
      I love your rooster.

"Hi Lillie...hey thank you very much" I am impressed with my find; i don't plan on parting with it either... LOL it's older than me and I feel pretty good about that! LOL. Like I said, i cannot see nor find any chip or scratches on it and it just thrills me how it has endured time; however, I'm a bit nervous as what to use for cleaning the dust from the lines... any ideas?
      Thank you,
      Eric

I forgot to mention, the number or initial scribed on the bottom...it has me puzzled

I'am wondering if this one was made during the, (1938–1945) German occupation of Czechoslovakia, the hand scribed number appears to 24...turn it around it appears to be 52, 57, or 58... one might believe it to be a many combinations of letters and numbers...but again who knows? (Going to find stronger magnifying glass)

      Hi Eric,
If you're going to clean the rooster, try not to get it too wet. I usually use a dry, soft bristle toothbrush on my pieces that have lots of lines, crevices. It works remarkably well. Did you go to the site I suggested? Also, from doing further research, I found the name of one of the Czech factories tha they imported products from: it is Ditmar Urbach in Teplitz Czechoslovakia. Maybe you can research it further.
Lovely piece, I too have many pieces of pottery, glass and china that I love.
      Have a great day.

FYI...the year on the rooster indicates when the factory was established, not necessarily and most often NOT the year it was made...also the fact that CZECH-SLOVAKIA

Hello Eric I just see, you posted this lovely rooster 2 years ago, but nevertheless I think you would like to know more about it. Well, this piece was made by the former BIHL company at Ladowitz / Ledvice, now Czechia.
And it definitely was made between 1918-22 , in those early years the wrote it with a hyphen, later without. And during the time Ladowitz belonged to Germany, they had to stamp their products with "Germany", never with " Czchechos-Lovakia". I am working on a catalog of this company, but it still will take some lime........
      Best regards,
      Sibylle
