This is one ring I am asking for help! I bought this ring on the premiss that the stone was an Amethyst and was sold to me as such. After I tested it with only a gemtester it read that the stone was made harder of 8 to like a Sapphire level. The stone changes colour from purple to almost a sage green in different lights. This came from a very high end estate back east. Bought it from a dealer going out of business...and he did not know what it was. But when I where it ...it almost has a shimmer or glow to the top of the stone..and it kinda follows me. So let me know your thoughts...I did not want to take it into the store to ask...until I can come with a good hypothesis..thanks :) I was told the stone was genuine..and not heat treated.
Alexandrite really changes to a blue in natural light, is that what is happening?
Or could be a purple sapphire. Green? Purple emerald?
Wow, stumper.
AmberRose, I am stumped also! I think it maybe a Alexandrite ...but does Alexandrite have a top that follows you as you move it around? It does change to a blue/green in natural lighting and purple :0 I never thought of purple emerald before..hmmm
BELLIN68, I am stumped and this is a new gemstone for me...never had one like this....I thought I was buying Amethyst. Thanks for all your loving :)
Hi Moon, I know that synthetic Alexandriate reacts slightly differently tan the real deal. Assume this stone is the real deal of ???
I don't know if real follows you. Seems like Alexandrite to me though.
Could be color change Sapphire or Alexandrite. Whatever stone it is its very pretty!
vintagejewel, I agree and took it to the store and even the gemologist was stumped just looping the stone. He wanted to run further testing next week :0
Will let you know what he says....lol...this is fun!!!
Have you noticed sometimes how a jewelrystore owner wont know what stone it is and will say something other then another jewelry store says. It always good to get a few opinions as I know you as a jewelry lover know. I have a little old miners diamond and wanted it set took it to a jewelry store and the guy was like oh a old minecut like it was worthless and the guy said the reason it doesnt sparkle as much is because of the old cut but keep in mind he is selling all new diamonds. I personally think old cut diamonds sparkle more and cant even be compared to new cut diamonds.I wanted to say what are you talkn about but i just politely left with my little sparkly diamond. Cant wait to find out what your stone is and yes totally fun! Cw is my little peace outlet!
Yes please keep us posted on the mystery!
I will call you when I get a few peaceful minutes. House full of play dates at the moment. Still super excited!
vintagejewel, you are so right about Jewelry stores trying to sell you something all the time!!! I see first hand what its like behind the scenes and its very aggressive! I know that they want to sell you something...and I always come into the store and stump them with unusual pieces that I know many places would like to copy. And they do! I will let you know what he says about the stone! He was busy yesterday and in between customers louped the stone...and could not give an answer. I told him on the Mohs scale it ran higher than an Amethyst and almost to if not a Sapphire level...and he did say its a genuine gemstone....lol I cant wait to tell you :)) PS sorry for all the typos...multitasking :)
AmberRose, waiting with baited breath for your moment :))
Awesome cant wait to find out! You have great rare finds!
vintagejewel, Thank you for saying that...I am always learing :)
THAT IS A THING OF BEAUTY.....
n2bmn123, thank you :) I am wear the ring as we speak :) Still unsure if Alexandrite is natural or not...will find out :)
