This is an original Von Arx stone lithograph from my private collection of Magic posters. This is an extremely scarce poster and one that is highly sought after and collected if able to be found! St. Paul, Standard litho., ca. 1920
This is a half sheet poster measuring approximately 21" x 28" and is in "A" condition. This poster titled, "The Throne of Mystery" displays a stunning image that comes right out of The Golden Age of Magic! A truly amazing and eye catching poster! One of my favorites in my collection for sure.
Von Arx (Charles A. Nicol) was the brother of The Great Nicola and successful performer himself. He did not want to commercialize on the stage name of his brother Will, so used a number of stage names. Both Charles and Will traveled with their dad, then known as Nicoli.
In 1912 he assumed the name of "Von Arx". He later changed to "The Great Chalbert" around 1918. Chasan (from his birth name Chas. A. N.) was the last of a number of his stage names. The Chasan act was a Spook Show with magic and ventriloquism. He died at his home in Monmouth, Illinois in 1958.
Great collection of posters! Thanks for sharing them with us.
Thanks again pops52, and thanks for viewing my growing collection. I am glad you can appreciate these rare posters! More to come...
Beautiful! Great history!
Thanks wrightarchitecture, glad you like both the poster and history.
Thanks BELLIN68, all my posters are keepers as you know but this one will be framed and hanged in my kitchen. Will post that picture after I get around to framing it. Thanks again.
I don't think I did see the hood ornament, where is it? You seriously have like a million items on your page. LOL
Framed and hanging in the kitchen.
