One of my favorite pieces in my small decorative china collection

This bowl belonged to my mother's mother who died many years before I was born. After my grandfather died, my parents bought his house from the estate and we moved in. It was a big arts & crafts home that my grandfather had built in which my mother grew up and now I was going to grow up there as well. The estate had been settled, all property divided, and everyone had taken what they wanted. While poking around in the basement and the things no one had wanted, I found this bowl (and the rose one next to it) just sitting on a shelf collecting dust. My mother shrugged her shoulders and just left them there (along with several other pieces of Limoges and crystal) for 20 or so years until one night she told me to find a box and pack them up (which I did at lightening speed). Although I never met my grandmother, I believe it was from her I inherited my appreciation of how beautiful and precious a "simple" plate or bowl can be. I cherish them dearly and those who created their graceful elegance to be enjoyed so many years later.
