My aunt´s friend has no children and saw my interest in Wedgwood china so she gave me this old jar that had stood in her house forever. It measures 7.2 inches hight and the definition of the blue print is not very good but the shape is perfect and the picture of a couple walking by the river bed is beautiful, gives me peace. It is not broken but sound craky like it were going to break right away, I love it but have no idea of its origin or antiquity. If you can help me solve this mystery so that I can tell my girls what it reallyis.

this is beautiful! i think that it's a historical piece commemorating a particular place. i wonder if 'shrewsbury' could be one of the american towns? there's one in vermont and another in new jersey - at least. if it is an american commemorative jar, it could be pretty valuable and historic. if it's english, less so, but still could be very interesting to people. it's probably 1810-1840 or so - although that's just a guess w/out examining the piece. could even be earlier. i wish we could see it right-side-up.
In the 19th century Jacob Furnival of Staffordshire, England seems to have used a different type "wreath " mark that corresponded with the pattern on the item, with the name of the pattern in the centre of the wreath. His initials were usually found under the wreath though. A possibility requiring more research
instead of a maker's mark, could that actually be the name of the village?
Yes, these are not good pictures. I will try to make a better set of photographs next week. I suppose it is English not American city if so, for the vase has been in a Spanish family in Spain.
Shrewsbury is in England, but I think this is the pattern name and it could possibly be Jacob Furnival
