After my grandmother passed away in December, her children went through her home and started throwing things out to get it ready to sell. I dont know how old this is, but I had never seen it before, it was actually taken apart and in her attic in a box covered in dust. I rescued it from pile of things they were getting ready to take to the dump and brought it home and now its put together and displayed in my living room where it will stay safely away from another garbage pile
What a beautiful wheel! I've had 3 until I worked down to the "castle" I had been after for about 15 yrs. (on my CW site). Americans weren't known for making ornate wheels but more for use. My guess on limited knowledge is that it is European @ maybe 1850-1990. Style, to me, suggests nordic. Beautiful piece & envy you your find.
Sorry, I meant 1850-1890.
Thank you so much, I'm so glad I noticed they were just going to throw it out. I know I'm going to cherish it

Thats really cool, Im from greenup county, lived in Lexington, and Shelbyville too for a little bit. I've been living here in TN for the past couple of years but i'm going next week to look at some property on Lake Cumberland in the Somerset Ky area so that the kids and I can move this summer. Kentucky is a beautiful place, lots of great people and so many areas where its like time stands still. Cant wait to get back. You have a great week as well!

nice save -- you found a very nice piece and they can go for a considerable amount of money -- saw one last year at an auction we attended go for $500 and not nearly as nice as yours -- good eye
