I ended up with this chest when my father passed a few years back and I love it! It adds such depth to any room with it's dark wood and carvings. The lock is amazing too but I don't have the key. No clue where it's from or even the era but it's a piece that I treasure for sure.
Any insight on this would be great!.

    Thanks

Congrats on inheriting such a special piece. I have a chest with very similar carvings and hardware. I love mine but am afraid to even clean it very much for fear of damaging the exterior. It is very special and a guaranteed eyecatcher when people visit. There is no key to the lock... you just slide the top bar of the lock outward and it comes apart. You're welcome <grin>. Mine has a very unusual shape, like three casks bound together. The legs aren't as long as on yours either. Haven't found out anything much about mine but still looking. If you'd like a photo of mine, email me at wolfwoman62@gmail.com. I'd be happy to show you. Mine's been damaged by burglars so I'm looking to replace the brass hinges. Wish me luck.
